Clinton was recruited from the Wimmera club of Minyip-Murtoa via the North Ballarat U18 side as a quick midfielder who has excellent pace and nice skills.
Clinton started 2005 on the rookie list but was promoted and went on to play 7 senior games for the year. He continued to improve in 2006 playing 14 games for the Hawks with an outstanding performance against Richmond in round 12, where he collected 24 possessions and took 13 marks resulting in a NAB Rising Star Nomination.
In 2007, Clinton continued his progression at senior level, picking up valuable possessions in each of his games and providing another avenue to goal for the Hawks. He had the second highest number of marks for the season and pumped the ball inside 50m more than any other Hawthorn player.
Young had a solid 2008 season playing 20 matches mainly as a wingman used to run and carry the ball and kick it for distance with his left boot. The midfielder was starring in the Grand Final until he rolled his ankle in the third term and was forced from the ground. Capping off an excellent 2008 season, Young finished first for the club in marks and second in long kicks and inside 50s. Unfortunately Young missed most of the 2009 season with a hip injury and only managed to play the first five games of the season.
Clinton has that ability to make something out of nothing and is good on both sides of his body. His size and pace make him tough to match up on and he looks set to become another young Hawk that will feature prominently in the Hawthorn senior side.
