Travis was born in Victoria and played his junior football at Torquay Football Club as a classy midfielder with good speed and ball winning ability. As an AIS/AFL Academy graduate, Travis showed plenty of promise in 2006 at U18 level, representing Vic Country, whilst averaging 25 disposals in 10 games for the Geelong Falcons. His brilliant performance at junior level saw him picked up by Port Adelaide at number 5 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, which was the equal highest ever draft selection for the club.

Travis possesses great agility and endurance and also has a great kick. Travis’s hard work paid off in 2007 making his AFL debut in Round 12 against the Bombers.

The young gun continued to impress in his second season, finishing equal 10th in Port’s Best and Fairest and winning the club’s Most Improved Player Award, despite missing five games with injury.

In 2009 the classy half-forward spent time in the midfield, notably racking up 28 touches against St Kilda in round 19. However it was his performance a day after his 21st birthday against the Hawks that coach Mark Williams described as his “best game for the club”. The skilful onballer finished with a game-high 35 possessions, eight marks, three clearances and a goal and capped of his season with a fifth place in the club’s Best and Fairest.

Travis is undoubtedly one of the game’s promising stars of the future and will be a handy midfielder for the Power in years to come.
