Adam is a talented footballer who has much to offer and plays with a lot of heart. Originally from Sandhurst Football Club, he is the twin of current Brisbane Lions player Troy and older brother of Geelong's Joel & Eagles Scott. Adam offers the coaching staff much flexibility because he is able to play as a run with midfielder, as an attacking wingman or in a defensive capacity.

Adam made his AFL debut in round 19, 2003, but due to a chronic groin injury didn’t really make his mark until 2005. He played 20 senior games with the Eagles in that season, breaking into the talented Eagles midfield, as a run with player and shutting down some of the games more proficient midfielders. Adam's efforts against Brisbane in round 16 of that same year, where he managed to keep the Lions playmaker Nigel Lappin to 20 possessions as well as winning 24 of his own, earned him a NAB AFL Rising Star Nomination. Along with his brilliant performance against the Lions Adam was also influential in the preliminary final, where he had 26 important disposals to help get the Eagles over the line.

In 2006, Adam continued his stride towards becoming one of the games' excellent players. He played every game of the 2006 season and was a member of the triumphant premiership side that clinched the flag in the one point thriller against Sydney. In the finals series, Adam showed once again that he is a big game player, averaging 22 disposals and was one of the Eagles' best players in the Grand Final, having another 26 disposals. His stellar season was rewarded when he came fifth in the Best & Fairest and was selected for Australia in the International Rules Series.

In 2007, Adam picked up from where he left off in 2006 and kept some of the games best playmakers quiet as well as picking up valuable possessions of his own.

Becoming the heart and soul of the playing group, Selwood bust his gut to perform any role asked of him throughout the 2008 and 2009 seasons, whether it was a run-with midfielder or close-checking defender. Respected by his peers, Adam finished third in the Best & Fairest after playing every game of the season and was selected as Australia’s vice-captain for the 2008 International Rules Series.

Adam has no doubt cemented himself in the Eagles line up. His flexibility will see him being used in a number of roles at the Club in what will be a long and exciting AFL career.
