2009 AFL Debut
Also known as ‘Son Son’, Michael is a highly skilled midfielder who can go forward and kick goals. An AIS graduate in 2008, Michael made the All-Australian team and was selected in the Colts Team of the Year after winning the premiership with Swan Districts. Originally from Midvale Football Club, Michael developed into a promising player with exceptional skills as well as good awareness and agility.
Michael made his AFL debut for Fremantle in Round 11 of the 2009 AFL season at AAMI Stadium against Port Adelaide and managed to kick his first goal in his debutant game, whilst also gathering 14 disposals and 9 kicks. He has played only 11 games in three seasons following due to injury and form troubles however. The naturally talented half-forward kicked the winning goal against the Brisbane Lions in round one of 2011, but played just two more games before his season was finally ended by a knee injury.
Despite a disjointed pre season in 2012, Michael worked hard and was rewarded with selection in round 16. Averaging 2 goals a game, he added another avenue to goal for Fremantle by playing at the feet of Pavlich. His finals campaign was impressive and from what he has shown, 2013 holds many positives for Michael as long as he remains fit.
